Candy Cane Cookies and Wreaths

The candy cane recipe was published in the STAR WEEKLY newspaper in 1957. Grammie Fryer made them first, then I did them too. The cookies are not hard to make, but they do take time. I love the almond flavour. - Mary LeChasseur

Double-Chocolate Cookies

Rich in chocolate flavor, these cookies have less than half the fat of crisp chocolate cookies. Cocoa powder contributes a deep chocolate flavor without adding fat. Adding coffee heightens the chocolate flavor.

Dense Chocolate Loaf Cake

I start with this because I think it is the essence of all that is desirable in chocolat eits dark intensity isn't toyed with, nor upstaged by any culinary elaboration. This is the plainest of plain loaf cakes-but that doesn't convey the damp, heady aromatic denseness of it. To understand that, you just have to cook it. And as you'll see, that isn't hard at all.

Baba au Rhum Cake (Una Pratt's Rum Cake)

I often bake the cake and add the rum sauce two or three days ahead.  Then decorate and add the whipped cream just before serving. -- Una Pratt
