Ingredients 1 cup scalded milk2 Tbsp shortening1 egg1 tsp salt2 Tbsp + 1 tsp sugar½ cup warm water1 Tbsp (or packet) yeast3½ cups of white flour Method Scald 1 cup of milk (heat in a sauce pan just to about boiling). Combine milk, shortening, egg, sugar and salt in a large bowl; then cool to lukewarm. Dissolve 1 teaspoon of sugar into ½ cup warm water; sprinkle yeast over this. Once yeast has risen, add to milk mixture. Beat and stir in approx. 3½ cups of white flour. Knead. Cover with a tea towel and let rise until double in bulk. Punch down, knead and shape into rolls.
